Rodrigo Pavia, the spokesperson for the Brazil national team, responded to reports about the Brazilian Football Confederation compensating Al-Hilal Club following the injury of international star Neymar da Silva Junior. The Al-Hilal team suffered a major blow after it was confirmed that their star Neymar would be sidelined for an extended period due to a severe injury consisting of a torn ACL and cartilage in his left knee, which occurred before the end of the first half in the match between Brazil and Uruguay during the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. This officially marks the end of Neymar's season with Al-Hilal, and the Brazilian star's salary is approximately 100 million euros per season.
Pavia stated in an interview with Saudi newspaper "Al-Riyadiyah": "The responsibility for financial compensation does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Brazilian federation, but is purely related to Al-Hilal." The spokesperson revealed that Al-Hilal is the sole party responsible for communicating with FIFA to provide them with reports regarding Neymar's injury. He pointed out that based on these reports, FIFA will determine the amount of financial compensation to be paid to Al-Hilal, which will not exceed one year's salary.
Rodrigo Pavia also affirmed that the Brazil national team would not intervene in Neymar's treatment, as Al-Hilal will be responsible for the timing of the player's return to Riyadh and the location of the surgical procedure. It is worth noting that 31-year-old Neymar Junior joined Al-Hilal in the summer of this year from the French giant Paris Saint-Germain for approximately 90 million euros.
