Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has promised to make fans proud following his debut for the team in a 2-0 victory over Leeds United, a second-tier competitor, on Wednesday in a friendly match in Oslo. According to British media reports, the 24-year-old English international joined United earlier this month from Chelsea for £55 million ($71.45 million).
After playing the first 45 minutes of the match, he told United's television channel, "When we arrived at the stadium, the support was amazing. The fans backed us, and it's stunning to see that. This is what we want to play for, and we want to make them proud."
Coach Erik ten Hag praised the club's first signing of the current transfer window, as the Dutch manager looks to strengthen his squad ahead of United's return to the UEFA Champions League. He said, "He was great, but we can expect that. He has many skills, and I'm sure we will enjoy his performance a lot. He will certainly contribute to improving our performance."
United will begin their Premier League campaign at home on August 14 against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
