The head of the "Kataeb" party, MP Sami Gemayel, stated in a press conference: "It is not permissible to appoint a new commander in the absence of the president, and there is no other option but to postpone the dismissal. This issue is principled and has nothing to do with individuals but concerns Lebanon's interests, the powers of the president, and the continuity of the public facility." He added: "Delaying the commander’s dismissal is the only option available to us; there are no other choices, and all other options are an escape from responsibility and unconstitutional." He continued: "The appropriate body to postpone the dismissal is the Council of Ministers, and if the Minister of Defense hesitates, the council can take on this task on his behalf." He announced, "We will give the government a chance on Friday, and if this extension does not happen by Friday morning, we will face a dangerous option—the vacancy in the leadership of the army—and we will move to other options."
