Officials from the World Health Organization expressed concern today, Tuesday, about the potential collapse of hospitals in southern Gaza as fighting intensifies around the city of Khan Younis, with many medical staff and patients fleeing for their lives. Shaun Casey, the WHO's coordinator for emergency medical teams in Gaza, stated during a press conference in Geneva via video link, "What we are seeing raises real concern about many hospitals." He added, "We are witnessing the healthcare system collapse at a very rapid pace," noting that approximately 600 patients have fled from one facility. He further stated, "We cannot afford to lose these healthcare facilities. They must be protected at all costs. They represent the last line of secondary and tertiary healthcare in Gaza from north to south, and one hospital is falling after another." He mentioned that patients are risking their lives to reach hospitals in Khan Younis today due to the ongoing fighting.
