The Soldier and the Palestinian Detainee: First Israeli Comment Reveals Their Fate

The Israeli army commented on a photo of a naked Palestinian detainee who was subjected to violence and beating, stating that the soldier has been discharged and the detainee has been released. The photo spread rapidly, sparking sharp criticisms and angry reactions, according to the Israeli newspaper "Yediot Ahronot." It added that the soldier who posted the photo, a reservist, was discharged from service due to his actions.

"As anyone doubts that these are not soldiers & no more than thugs in uniform?!" commented Said Arikat, sharing a picture that showed Israeli soldier Yosee Gamzoo torturing a Palestinian civilian in West Gaza City. The photo reveals the detainee, identified as Hamza, who is handcuffed and undressed, with a blurred gunshot wound on his leg. It was noted that the image was taken inside a school in the Rimal neighborhood of northern Gaza.

Palestinian sources identified the detainee, stating that he lost his mother and brother, as well as his sister-in-law and his two-year-old nephew. The soldier's published image has received strong backlash, highlighting the treatment of Palestinians by Israeli forces, described as disgraceful and inhumane.

In response, many launched fierce campaigns against Israeli soldier Yossi Gamzoo, especially on Facebook, leading him to close his account to the public.
