Egyptian businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed passed away today, Friday, at the age of 94, following a long career in the world of finance and business. His death comes just a day after the anniversary of his son Dodi's death on August 31, 1997, in a car accident alongside Princess Diana in Paris. A funeral prayer was held after Friday prayers at the Regens Park Mosque in London. Al-Fayed was born in Alexandria in 1929 and began his business career in Egypt before moving to Dubai in 1960, where he worked in real estate and development. In 1975, he moved to the United Kingdom, where he purchased the Ritz Hotel in Paris and the Harrods department store in London in 1985. He was a controversial figure, with close ties to the British royal family. In 1997, his son Dodi Fayed and Princess Diana died in a car accident in Paris, and Al-Fayed accused the British royal family and the British and French intelligence services of being involved in the incident.
