Paris 2024 Organizers Closely Monitoring Heatwave

The president of the Paris 2024 organizing committee, Tony Estanguet, indicated on Tuesday that the organizers of the Summer Olympics are closely monitoring long-term weather forecasts, as large parts of Europe are experiencing a heatwave that has reached record temperatures. The World Meteorological Organization has stated that "the heatwave affecting the northern hemisphere will intensify this week, which may result in rising nighttime temperatures." The organization mentioned in a statement: "Temperatures in North America, Asia, and across North Africa and the Mediterranean will exceed 40 degrees Celsius for several days this week as the heatwave strengthens." The president of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, noted that the consequences of climate change have impacted the organization of sporting events worldwide. He added, "There is a special focus on winter sports... because the effects of climate change are very evident, but it also applies to summer sports." He continued: "In Tokyo, the weather was extremely humid, but the measures to mitigate the heat worked well." France has escaped the worst heatwave so far this summer.
