Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev affirmed that Moscow's response to Washington's seizure of Russian assets may not be identical, but it "will not be less painful." Commenting on the new U.S. law regarding the seizure of Russian assets, Medvedev wrote on Telegram that while Russia may not be able to provide a direct equivalent response due to the small amount of U.S. governmental assets in Russia, the Russian response will not be any less painful and will encompass American citizens and their properties.
He added, "Their state has declared a hybrid war on us, including a legal and judicial war. They have initiated a mechanism for the illegal seizure of Russian property, which completely contradicts international laws and our national laws, and we must respond to that." He noted that Russia could seize the property of individuals within the jurisdiction of Russian law, including individuals' funds, real estate, and property rights.
