The "Dallas Morning News" warned citizens on Texas Independence Day from Mexico about the increasing number of candidates for elected positions who advocate for Texas's separation from the United States. The newspaper expressed concern as "Super Tuesday" approaches in the U.S., when many states will choose their delegates for the upcoming presidential elections. It wrote, "Some are going too far in Texas's famous pursuit of independence. With 'Super Tuesday' nearing, Texas Republican voters need to be vigilant. The number of candidates... who have signed the 'Take Texas Back' pledge raises concerns."
The newspaper noted that this pledge commits candidates for elected office to prioritize Texas's interests over general U.S. interests and to advance a bill for a referendum on the state's separation from the United States. It continued, "So far, more than 150 individuals have signed the pledge, including several Republican candidates from North Texas."
Moreover, the newspaper urged Texas residents to examine the list of candidates more carefully before heading to the polls to avoid being surprised later. Earlier, several American experts expressed concern over Texas authorities seizing part of the federal U.S. border amid the immigration crisis.
