China announced on Thursday its support for full membership of a Palestinian state in the United Nations, describing the war in Gaza as a "stain on the civilized world." Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated during a press conference on the sidelines of the second session of the 14th National People's Congress of China: "We support Palestine to become a full member of the United Nations."
The minister criticized Israeli military operations in Gaza, saying, "There is no justification for killing civilians." He urged both Palestinians and Israelis to resume peace talks as soon as possible and called for a "broader and more reliable peace conference."
He mentioned that China will continue to work with the international community to restore peace and protect lives. The minister also stated that his country would be a global force for peace and stability. He added to reporters: "In the face of complex disturbances in the international environment, China will continue to be a force for peace, a force for stability, and also a force for progress in the world."
