Liverpool suffered a surprising 3-2 defeat against French side Toulouse in Group E of the Europa League on Thursday, after a late equalizing goal was disallowed for the English team in stoppage time. The hosts broke the deadlock in the 36th minute when Aaron Donkun intercepted the ball in midfield, advanced into the penalty area, and scored with a deflected shot. Tays Dalinga doubled the lead in the 58th minute.
Liverpool reduced the deficit in the 73rd minute with an own goal from Cristian Caceres, but Frank Magri restored Toulouse's two-goal advantage three minutes later. Diogo Jota gave hope to the Premier League side when he dribbled past several players inside the area and found the net. Liverpool thought they had equalized when Jarell Quansah scored in the seventh minute of stoppage time, but the VAR disallowed the goal due to a handball by Alexis Mac Allister earlier.
Liverpool remains at the top of Group E, two points ahead of Toulouse.
