Title: Asmar: To Accompany Mansouri’s Steps with Reform Measures

A statement was issued by the President of the General Labor Union, Bishara Asmar, as follows: "Following the significant and active presence of the interim Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, Wassim Mansouri, in Arab and international forums and the supportive cooperation expressed by Arab and foreign countries towards the Central Bank of Lebanon, the General Labor Union in Lebanon emphasizes the following:

- Support for the absolute transparency policy implemented, based on announcing the figures as they are; a policy being tracked for the first time in the Central Bank of Lebanon.

- Prohibition of financing the state and its institutions from remaining reserve funds and strict adherence to the Law of Currency and Credit.

- No printing of additional currency and avoiding the flooding and injection of large amounts of the national currency into the markets to prevent further inflation and an increase in the exchange rate of the dollar.

Asmar reaffirmed the necessity of continuing the smart policy pursued to ensure the salaries of the public sector (public administration – public institutions – official education – the Lebanese University – military sectors and retirees) without any losses to the Central Bank, as this has positive implications for these sectors and aligns with a balanced national policy to ensure a minimum level of social security for the public sector, which is suffering from the ongoing economic collapse in all areas.

He also called for addressing previous circulars concerning equality among depositors and avoiding discrimination based on deposit dates. Additionally, he urged accompanying the steps taken by the interim Governor of the Central Bank, Wassim Mansouri, with a series of necessary reform measures, including the approval of related laws: Capital Control Law, Economic Recovery Law, Bank Restructuring Law, Law for the Recovery of Embezzled Funds, Forensic Audit Law covering all ministries, public institutions, and administrations, and a modern tax law to combat tax evasion."
