Presidential Elections Become More Complex: Negative Factors in Le Drian's Mission

Political circles have noted that the presidential election file is becoming increasingly complex with the introduction of new regional and international factors. Prominent among these is the recent statement from French President Emmanuel Macron, who accused Iran by name of interfering in Lebanese affairs, without specifying the nature of this intervention. He linked it to the crisis resulting from the obstruction of the presidential election process. This marks the first time he has named Iran directly, having previously maintained an open engagement with the Iranian side and appeared to adopt the position of "Hezbollah" and its allies in supporting the candidacy of Sleiman Frangieh, the head of the "Mardak" party, during what was referred to as the French initiative. This was done while ignoring the objections and rejection from other opposition components and other parties, which ultimately led to the implementation being stalled after facing rejection from other members of the Quintet meeting composed of the United States, France, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Qatar.

According to sources, as reported by "Al-Liwaa," the shift in the French stance, articulated by President Macron himself rather than others involved in the Lebanese crisis file, indicates the emergence of negative factors in the path of the French presidential envoy's mission. This has resulted in obstacles from the Iranian side and its allies in Lebanon, prompting a change in the French approach towards calling things by their names and holding Iran responsible for complicating the resolution of the presidential election crisis due to its interference in Lebanese affairs.
