Cairo Submits Two Memos to the International Court Regarding Israeli Practices in Palestine

Cairo has submitted a memorandum to the International Court of Justice concerning Israeli practices in Palestinian territories, announced Diaa Rashwan, head of the Egyptian State Information Service. He stated that Cairo will participate in the advisory opinion requested by the United Nations General Assembly from the International Court regarding Israeli policies and practices in Palestinian territories since 1967, noting that it will present an oral argument before the court on February 21.

Rashwan added that the oral argument would affirm the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice to consider the advisory opinion, as the United Nations General Assembly is one of the bodies authorized under the organization's charter to request an advisory opinion from the court. He emphasized that the matter addresses the legal dimensions of illegal Israeli settlements in Palestinian territories, which violate international law principles and international legitimacy resolutions.

Regarding the advisory opinion, the Egyptian memorandum includes "affirmation of the illegality of the Israeli occupation that has lasted over 75 years, in violation of the principles of international humanitarian law, as well as the policies of land annexation, home demolitions, and the expulsion, displacement, and forced resettlement of Palestinians, in violation of peremptory norms of general international law, including the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people and the prohibition of land seizure through the use of armed force."

The memorandum also rejects policies of persecution, racial discrimination, and other Israeli practices that egregiously violate the principles of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
