Ismail Magaji, the head of a local community, announced that at least 34 people have been killed, including seven soldiers, in an attack carried out by an armed gang in Zamfara State in northwestern Nigeria. Magaji told Reuters that the attack occurred on Monday afternoon in the remote village of Dan Golbi in the Maru local government area of the state. A resident of the village stated that "27 villagers were killed in the attack while seven soldiers were ambushed on their way to assist the village against the horrific attack." Armed gangs have spread chaos in northwestern Nigeria over the past three years, kidnapping thousands, killing hundreds, and making road travel as well as farming unsafe in some areas.
