Sudanese Directives for Anti-Corruption in Iraq

Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani issued directives today, Sunday, in the field of combating corruption and preventing it. The media office of the Prime Minister stated that "continuing the government's approach to combating corruption and preventing it, due to the risks that corruption poses negatively to government institutions and the public services provided to citizens, and in order to enhance the work of internal oversight in government institutions and integrate its role with that of the Federal Financial Control Bureau, the Federal Integrity Commission, and law enforcement agencies, the Prime Minister directed the following:

1. Strengthening internal oversight procedures and expanding their scope by raising the administrative level of the auditing and internal oversight entities in all government institutions, establishing effective tasks for them to exercise oversight of all types over the spending of funds to achieve preventive oversight measures and prevent the waste or loss of public funds, ensuring their protection, uncovering corruption, holding the corrupt accountable, taking legal action against them, providing legal protection for those working in this field, and encouraging them to continue performing their roles efficiently, effectively, and stably.

2. Generalizing the internal oversight guide prepared by the Federal Financial Control Bureau to all government entities; to provide oversight controls for administrative units that contribute to enhancing their capacity to achieve their goals and missions and prevent corruption.

3. Preparing a draft law for the Federal Internal Oversight Authority based on the provisions of Article (108) of the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq of 2005, to strengthen internal oversight in all government institutions, organize preventive oversight procedures, and increase levels of accountability, integrity, and transparency; to protect public funds and all government institutions."
