Israeli Army: Hamas Holds Hostages in Rafah

The Israeli army announced today, Sunday, that Hamas is holding Israeli hostages in Rafah, southern Gaza. This announcement follows the Israeli army's statement today regarding the mobilization of two reserve battalions to move to the "Gaza front." The army stated, "According to the situation assessment, the Israeli army is calling up up to two reserve brigades to carry out operational activities on the Gaza front." The army mentioned that the mobilization would allow for "continuing the effort and preparation to defend the State of Israel and the safety of civilians," as expressed. The army did not disclose details about the number of troops in the battalions or the location where they will be deployed in the sector. Earlier this month, Israel withdrew some of its forces from Gaza, where it is waging war against Hamas. Rafah is considered Israel's last stronghold of Hamas, which launched an unprecedented attack on Israeli territory on October 7, resulting in the deaths of 1,170 people.
