The hotel and villa belonging to the late actor Johnny Weissmuller, known for his role in the film "Tarzan," were not spared from Hurricane Otis. This property, located on a cliff, was significantly damaged by the hurricane that hit the Pacific coast of Mexico.
This house was the last residence of the "King of the Jungle" until his death in 1984 at the age of 79 and was a refuge for wealthy visitors who regularly came to the tourist city of Acapulco. Weissmuller loved Acapulco during the filming of "Tarzan and the Mermaids" (1984), which marked his final appearance as Tarzan.
In one of the film's famous scenes, Tarzan is seen jumping into the Pacific Ocean from the 35-meter-high "La Quebrada" cliff in Acapulco. For decades, many adventurous divers have attempted the same leap.
Weissmuller, along with his friend and fellow star John Wayne, purchased the "Flamingo" hotel, which became a hotspot for stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Orson Welles, and Errol Flynn, who sought a getaway from the prying eyes of photographers.
As he aged, Weissmuller built a home away from the hotel, where he spent his retirement years during the last part of his life.
On October 25, the pink-colored hotel and villa faced Hurricane Otis, which caused widespread destruction and resulted in the deaths of at least 46 people, with dozens reported missing. Victor Manuel Hernandez, the manager of the Flamingo hotel, told AFP, "The hurricane uprooted trees and shattered windows." He added that "the Tarzan house has been completely destroyed."
