The Mediterranean Sea connects Lebanon and Morocco, yet the distance is very far, approximately 6,000 kilometers, or about 69 hours by car. This means that any convergence of the African and Asian plates does not affect our region in any way. Geologist Tony Nemer commented to "Warda": "We are very far from the Atlas Mountains, and there is no direct link connecting us to the earthquake in Morocco." He continued: "The earthquake that struck Morocco occurred on the southwestern edge of the Atlas Mountain Range, due to the collision between the African and European plates, and the focal point is very far from the Mediterranean Sea, with no direct impact on tectonic activity there."
