The Orthodox Church announced the suspension of theological dialogue with the Catholic Church and will reassess the outcomes of the dialogue that has been ongoing for the past 20 years, establishing new standards and mechanisms for future discussions. This suspension was reported following consultations with churches in the Eastern Orthodox family.
The Coptic Orthodox Church issued a statement regarding a general session of its Holy Synod, presided over by Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, which was attended by 110 members out of a total of 133. This session took place at the Logos Center in the Papal Headquarters at St. Bishoy Monastery in Wadi Natrun.
The main committees of the Holy Synod held their annual meetings starting last Monday for three days at the Papal Headquarters in the St. Mark's Cathedral in Abbassia, to discuss reports submitted by their subcommittees. The committees issued recommendations which were presented to the members of the synod in the general session today for approval.
Additionally, the church expressed its stance on the issue of "homosexuality" through a statement issued by the Holy Synod, which will be published later. In its statement, the church emphasized its rejection of homosexual relations, supporting its position with numerous biblical verses that clearly condemn such relationships, which are contrary to the human nature that God created.
