Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shiaa Al-Sudani requested today, Friday, that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres permanently terminate the operations of the UN mission in Iraq. In his letter, he noted that "the justifications for the existence of a political mission in Iraq are no longer available, especially after more than 20 years of democratic transformation and overcoming significant and diverse challenges." He affirmed Iraq's desire to enhance cooperation with UN agencies to achieve development and overcome the challenges facing the country.
