On the first day of the new year, Japanese people set a special array of New Year snacks on the table and buy ready-made assortments that can include 20 to 73 types of dishes, costing between $70 to $200.
The cheapest traditional dish on the New Year’s table comes from Hungary, where stuffed cabbage with pork, fat, and rice is prepared, costing only $2.50 per serving, in addition to traditional bread with poppy seeds or walnuts, which costs $9 for half a kilo.
In France, the main dish for Christmas is turkey, which costs $6.20 per meal. Goose liver is also always present on the French holiday table, with a small jar costing about $35. Turkey is also a traditional dish in the United States, costing $2.90 per meal. In Russia, turkey will cost $2.70, Olivier salad $2.20, and red caviar $1.60.
