The King Center in Atlanta announced that Dexter Scott King, the youngest son of the late civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, passed away on Monday from prostate cancer at the age of 62. His wife, Leah Weber King, stated that he died peacefully in his sleep at their home in Malibu, California. She added, "He fought this terrible disease with all his might until the end. He faced this ordeal with courage and strength, just as he did with every challenge he encountered in his life." Dexter King was born in Atlanta on January 30, 1961, and was named after the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, where his father served as a pastor for the first time. He was seven years old when his father was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1968.
