A nun in Chile left the remains of her friend in a bag on a street in Santiago and then departed, an incident that caused panic in a city experiencing rising crime rates. The discovery of human remains in the bag shocked Chile, before it became clear that the matter was related to a friendly "agreement" between the two nuns, according to local authorities on Wednesday. Deputy Governor Juan Fonseca stated to the press: "There was an agreement (between the two nuns). The first one died a year ago while the other kept the body in a bag due to the affection she had for her." Authorities revealed that the remains belonged to a nun (58 years old) who died about a year ago, reportedly due to illness, which dispelled the possibility of a crime. Law enforcement quoted an 80-year-old nun, whose identity has not been disclosed, mentioning a prior "agreement" between the two friends to accompany one another after death. Available data suggests that the nun planned to leave the bag containing the human remains in the street while visiting a relative, and then to bury her friend. The prosecutor in charge of the case, Francisco Lanas, said: "According to preliminary findings, there were no injuries on the body attributed to third parties." Lanas added: "Faced with the possibility of this bag, which contained her friend's body being discovered, she decided to leave it in the street. This is the only logical explanation we have."
