The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported today, Thursday, that a 5.6 magnitude earthquake shook Tokat Province in northern Turkey. Some rural houses in Tokat Province collapsed following the earthquake, which had its epicenter in the region of Solusaray. Turkish authorities announced that there have been no reports of casualties thus far. In addition to damages to some old houses, the minarets of some ancient mosques were also destroyed. Residents of Tokat, Samsun, Yozgat, Cankiri, and Corum provinces in northern and northeastern Turkey felt the tremor, while the city centers did not suffer any significant damage.
