The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Ukraine does not adhere to the principles of the International Atomic Energy Agency regarding the assurance of nuclear safety in armed conflicts and is not implementing its recommendations concerning the safety of the Zaporizhzhia station, according to the "Novosti" agency. This statement was made by Alexei Polishchuk, director of the second department for the CIS countries in the Russian Foreign Ministry, who noted that "Ukraine's attempts to seize this nuclear power plant are well known." He mentioned, "One of these attempts occurred just before the visit of the Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, to the station on September 1, 2022."
He added, "Today, Ukraine is not complying with the seven principles formulated by Grossi to ensure nuclear security in any armed conflict, in addition to his five recommendations on ensuring the safety of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. We condemn such actions by the Kyiv regime and call on Western countries not to ignore its dangerous games with nuclear fire." According to the Russian diplomat, "the West continues to arm Ukraine, and its representatives continue to flatter officials in Kyiv while avoiding condemning the terrorist actions carried out by Ukrainian forces, therefore Vladimir Zelensky is left with the impression that all his behaviors and actions will remain unpunished."
Polishchuk stated, "However, despite all this, the Russian armed forces have repelled all attempts to seize the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. We have informed the Director General of the IAEA of this."
