The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday the arrest of the killer of the well-known transgender blogger known as "Simsim." Major General Najah Mahmoud Sultan, Police Chief of Al-Diwaniya Governorate, disclosed that the suspect who committed the murder of the blogger known as "Simsim" was apprehended.
Major General Najah Mahmoud Sultan stated, "Following the murder of the blogger nicknamed 'Simsim' near the Al-Jadiriya Roundabout, a high-level team was immediately formed to follow up on the matter under my direct supervision, and with the follow-up of the head of the Criminal Investigation Department, Colonel Hussein Rashad, along with significant efforts from the head of the Family Department, Colonel Adnan Khalaf, in addition to the SWAT unit and several other officers and personnel."
He added, "As a result of available information, and after a precise operation, the suspect, a taxi driver who was driving a Saipa vehicle, was arrested. He confessed to committing the act due to a dispute that occurred between him and the victim, who refused to pay the agreed fare for a ride from Al-Aruba neighborhood to Hawalli University area. The suspect subsequently stabbed him with a knife, and his statements were legally certified in preparation for his referral to the competent court to receive his just punishment."
Earlier, Alsumaria TV reported that the "transgender" social media activist named "Simsim" was stabbed in the abdomen on Thursday, February 15, 2024, in Al-Diwaniya Governorate, leading to his death. "Simsim" is considered one of the social media activists in Iraq.
