Hamas stated on Friday that the International Court of Justice's decision regarding the case filed by South Africa against Israel, accusing it of committing "genocide" in Gaza, is "an important development that contributes to isolating Israel and exposing its crimes" in the Gaza Strip. Sami Abu Zuhri, head of Hamas's political bureau abroad, told Reuters on Friday that the International Court of Justice's ruling is a significant development that helps isolate Israel and reveal its crimes in Gaza. He added, "We call for obliging the occupation to implement the court’s decisions."
Although the court's decision did not meet the aspirations of the Palestinians for a binding order to stop the war in Gaza, it represents a legal setback for Israel, which had hoped to dismiss the case. Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine condemned what it described as the International Court of Justice's reluctance to call for an immediate ceasefire, stating in a statement, "The court's reluctance to demand a halt to fighting immediately is evidence of the control of global evil forces over international legal systems for their own interests at the expense of the oppressed."
The International Court of Justice ruled on Friday that Israel must do everything in its power to prevent any acts of genocide in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on Friday that the accusations directed at the Israeli state in the International Court of Justice of committing "genocide" in Gaza are "outrageous."
