U.S. National Security Council Strategic Affairs Advisor John Kirby reported that aid trucks have already begun arriving in Gaza. He stated, "We need to open the land crossings for aid to the residents of Gaza. We discussed with our Israeli counterparts how to avoid a repeat of what happened with the global kitchen workers." Kirby emphasized the importance of ensuring that Palestinians receive aid safely and are not targeted while doing so.
Kirby indicated that "if an agreement on a ceasefire is reached, there is no objection to the continuation of operations at the Gaza seaport," reaffirming that the Gaza seaport is a temporary facility and will not be a permanent one. He continued, "We explained to our Israeli partners the necessity of opening the land crossings, and the seaport is an adjunct to the crossings.”
Kirby revealed that "we have indirect ways to communicate messages to Hamas, and we have sent them messages regarding the nature of the seaport and how it operates."
