American actress and model Olivia Munn (43) revealed that she underwent a double mastectomy last year after being diagnosed with an "aggressive and fast-developing" type of breast cancer. Munn posted on her Instagram account after appearing at the Oscars ceremony in Hollywood with her partner, comedian John Mulaney, stating, "I hope that sharing this will help others find comfort, inspiration, and support for their own journeys" with the illness.
The actress, known for her roles in the "Iron Man" series, "Lego," "X-Men," the TV show "The Newsroom," and "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart, explained that she received a "negative genetic test" for cancer risks, and her mammogram results were "normal." However, after two months, her gynecologist recommended a statistical evaluation of her breast cancer risk due to her family history with the disease and the age at which she gave birth.
The results indicated a 37% risk, prompting Munn to undergo MRI, ultrasound, and biopsy, which revealed that she had "luminal B breast cancer in both breasts," an "aggressive and fast-developing" form of cancer. The actress, who shared hospital photos, said, "Thirty days after this biopsy, I underwent a double mastectomy, going from feeling completely fine to waking up in a hospital bed ten hours after surgery." She noted that she had a total of four surgeries.
It is worth mentioning that American star Angelina Jolie made headlines in May 2013 when she also revealed that she had undergone a double mastectomy.
