Life Imprisonment Sentenced Seven Times for Istanbul Bomber

In Turkey, a life sentence of seven terms and an additional 1,794 years were imposed on the Syrian national Ahlam al-Basheer, the executor of the explosion on Istiklal Street in Istanbul in 2022. Al-Basheer left a bag containing a homemade bomb on the famous street in 2022, which resulted in the deaths of six Turks and injuries to 99 others. Turkish police reported that al-Basheer admitted to placing the bomb that exploded, adding that she acted "on the orders of the Kurdistan Workers' Party," while the party denied any involvement in the attack. No group has claimed responsibility. A total of 18 individuals are being prosecuted in this case, and on January 22 of this year, Turkish authorities decided to release three of the accused while preventing them from traveling abroad. Istiklal Street in downtown Istanbul was targeted by a series of terrorist attacks in 2015 and 2016, which were claimed by the Islamic State organization and resulted in the deaths of around 500 people and injuries to more than 2,000 others.
