Capsize of Overloaded Ferry in Central African Republic During Funeral Procession

At least 58 people have died, and others are reported missing, after an overloaded ferry sank in Lake Mboko in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, while transporting mourners to a funeral, according to the Director General of Civil Protection. Witnesses shared videos of the moment the ferry capsized, stating that it was carrying over 300 people, significantly exceeding its capacity, and had just set off when it overturned. Thomas Dimas, whose teams arrived at the scene about 40 minutes after the incident, told a local radio station: "58 bodies have been recovered. We do not know how many people are still in the depths of the water."
