The military court issued a ruling sentencing the advisor to the Minister of Supply to 18 years in a high-security prison, along with a fine of one million five hundred and eighty thousand Egyptian pounds and 14 thousand US dollars, in addition to his dismissal from his position and the confiscation of the seized funds and real estate assets resulting from the crime.
The court also sentenced the General Director of the office of the president of a sugar company to 7 years in prison and dismissed him from his job, while private company owners received 10-year prison sentences for profiteering and withholding goods from the markets, according to the Middle East News Agency.
The Administrative Control Authority managed to apprehend the advisor to the Minister of Supply and the General Director of the office of the president of a sugar company after they received substantial bribes from the owner of a flour mill and another who owns a supply company, in exchange for allocating large quantities of sugar to their companies before the price increase and withholding it from the markets, which contributed to rising prices.
This comes as part of the implementation of the President's directives to control markets and intensify oversight and governance over the strategic and supply commodity systems, as well as to address any actions that affect citizens' daily lives.
