Ehud Barak: Israel Dug Tunnels Under Al-Shifa Hospital 40 Years Ago

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak admitted that Israel constructed shelters and dug tunnels beneath Al-Shifa Hospital 40 to 50 years ago, in an interview on CNN. This statement came in response to questions from host Christiane Amanpour about Israel's claims of a Hamas headquarters being located under the Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. Barak answered by stating that it has been known for many years that there are shelters built by Israeli contractors under Al-Shifa Hospital, which are used as a base for Hamas, with various tunnels being part of this system, according to him. In response to Barak, Amanpour asked, "Are you saying that this place was built by Israeli engineers? Did I misunderstand?" Barak replied, "We helped build these shelters probably 40 or 50 years ago (during periods of occupation in the Gaza Strip), to provide more space for the hospital operations within the limited area of the campus."
