Australian young swimmer Flynn Southam indicated today, Monday, that the "Chinese doping case will serve as additional motivation for his country's swimmers during the Olympic Games in Paris." Southam mentioned that his teammates discussed the revelation of 23 Chinese swimmers failing drug tests for a banned substance prior to the Tokyo Olympics. He added, "Well, there are some things happening, mainly just discussions among athletes and comparing notes about how the (Chinese swimmers' case) made us feel. He noted, "We will just be there to do our job, and our job is to do our best and take advantage of the support provided to us by the Australian public." Swimmers escaped sanctions before the Tokyo Olympics after an investigation by Chinese authorities concluded that the swimmers' positive results were due to unintentional exposure to the drug from contamination.
