Priscilla Presley, the former wife of the late American rock star Elvis Presley, stated that he was the love of her life despite their eventual separation, just before the premiere of a film about their tumultuous relationship at the Venice Film Festival. The film "Priscilla," directed by Sofia Coppola, is based on the autobiography Priscilla published in 1985 titled "Elvis and Me," in which she discussed her tumultuous life with one of the most famous figures of the twentieth century.
Priscilla told reporters in Venice before the film's global premiere, "I don't say I didn't love him. He was the love of my life, but his lifestyle was too difficult for me." She met Elvis in 1959 when she was only 14 years old, and he was deeply nostalgic for his homeland while serving in the U.S. Army in West Germany.
Elvis returned to the United States shortly thereafter, but the two remained in contact, and in 1963 he invited her to come and live with him in Memphis, where she finished her schooling. They married in 1967 and had a daughter the following year before separating in 1973, just four years before Elvis passed away from heart failure at the age of 42.
The film stars "Kylie Spaeny" and "Jacob Elordi," and it is competing with 23 other films for the Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival, which runs until next Saturday.
