Morocco: 108 Years Imprisonment for Drug Traffickers

On Monday, the Moroccan judiciary sentenced 13 individuals to a total of 108 years in prison on charges of drug trafficking. Specifically, the Agadir Court of First Instance found the defendants guilty of offenses including "possession and transportation of drugs, participation in drug trafficking, attempting to export drugs without authorization from customs, possession and transportation of drugs, participation in drug trade, and consumption of hashish."

The court sentenced two defendants to 10 years in prison and a fine of 100,000 dirhams each, while the other convicted individuals received sentences of 8 years in prison and a 20,000 dirham fine, along with costs and joint liability. They are also ordered to collectively pay the customs administration an amount of 421,734,714 dirhams, along with costs and joint liability, and the destruction of the confiscated drugs.

On March 17, 2024, police in Agadir, in cooperation with the Royal Navy and the Royal Gendarmerie, thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of drugs amounting to nearly 10 tons and 542 kilograms of hashish, arresting thirteen individuals suspected of being linked to this criminal activity.
