A U.S. federal judge rejected a lawsuit filed by X Corp, owned by entrepreneur Elon Musk, against the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), ruling that the case was aimed at punishing the research group for its speech. The CCDH has documented the increase in hate speech on the platform since it was acquired by the American billionaire and owner of Tesla in 2022. Last year, "X," formerly known as "Twitter," sued the nonprofit, claiming that the center's researchers violated the site's rules and terms of service by improperly compiling public tweets. The company stated that the organization’s reports on the rise of hate speech on the platform cost it millions of dollars when advertisers fled. U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer dismissed the lawsuit, writing in his order that it "shamelessly and vocally relates to one thing: punishing the nonprofit organization for its speech." The company announced that it "disagrees with the court's decision and will appeal."
