Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Iraq today, Monday, for an official visit that is his first in twelve years. Iraqi officials welcomed President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Baghdad on this state visit. Erdogan previously commented that this visit would be significantly different and that a number of issues would be discussed, including energy, transportation, water, counter-terrorism, and bilateral relations. This visit marks Erdogan's first trip to Baghdad as President, as his last visit was when he was Prime Minister. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that more than 20 agreements would be signed with Iraq during this visit.
