France First to Qualify for Round of 16 in the World Cup

Kylian Mbappé scored two goals, leading France to a 2-1 victory over Denmark in Group D, making the defending champions the first team to qualify for the Round of 16 in the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Saturday.

The French took the lead when Theo Hernandez sent in a cross that Mbappé converted with a shot that deflected off Andreas Christensen and changed direction into the net in the 61st minute.

Denmark equalized seven minutes later through Christensen, who scored with a powerful header from close range into the net past goalkeeper Hugo Lloris (68).

Mbappé secured the win for France in the 86th minute after connecting with a cross from Antoine Griezmann, scoring with his thigh.

France tops Group D with six points, three points ahead of Australia, which won 1-0 against Tunisia on Saturday, while Denmark and Tunisia each have one point.

Denmark will face Australia next Wednesday, while Tunisia will meet France.
