A Small Restaurant in Dubai Becomes the Best in the Middle East

When Mohamed Orfali was a child, his favorite meal of the day was breakfast. In his family's home in Aleppo, Syria, his grandfather prepared a dish called "Trit bil Laban," which is an omelet with meatballs served over garlic yogurt. This meal can be enjoyed with warm bread. Orfali remarked, "I have many memories about food, but I think this is the best of all."

Food and family have always been priorities for Orfali, and this is now more evident than ever as he manages "Orfali Bros" restaurant with his two younger brothers in Dubai, UAE. The restaurant opened in 2021, and the menu crafted by the three brothers serves as a love letter to their Syrian roots and the cooking traditions they grew up with, infused with contemporary Arab and Mediterranean flavors.

Mohamed, a former television chef, serves as the head chef, while his brothers, Waseem and Omar, handle the restaurant's exceptional desserts. Orfali confirmed, "We talk about food, we love food, and we love people who love food."

It's not just the brothers who cherish their dishes; award-giving bodies appreciate them as well. For the second consecutive year, the restaurant received the title of Best Restaurant in the Middle East and North Africa according to the "50 Best" list and secured a spot in the list of the best 50 restaurants in the world for 2023, along with the "Bib Gourmand" award from the Michelin Guide, which is given to restaurants that offer high-quality dishes at reasonable prices.
