The Qatar Football Association announced on Friday the extension of Spanish coach Marquez Lopez's contract as head coach of the Qatari national team until 2026. The association issued a statement indicating that the Spanish coach will continue his duties with Al Annabi in upcoming challenges, the most important being the joint qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup.
"We look forward to achieving more successes together, Lopez," the association stated, wishing him the best with Al Annabi.
The contract was signed at the association’s headquarters in the presence of Mansour Mohammed Al-Ansari, the Secretary-General of the Qatar Football Association. The signing follows Lopez's significant success with the Qatari national team, having led them to win the Asian Cup recently hosted in Doha, retaining the title that Al Annabi won in the 2019 edition in the UAE.
Last December, the Qatar Football Association temporarily recruited Lopez while he was coaching Al Wakrah, to take charge of the national team during the continental finals, before officially signing him and expressing gratitude to Al Wakrah's management for allowing the coach to stay with the national team.
