The Speaker of the Parliament, Nabih Berri, received the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund, Mahmoud Mohi El Din, at the second presidency headquarters in Ain al-Tineh, where they discussed the general conditions in Lebanon and the region, focusing on the agreement between Lebanon and the IMF. Mohi El Din denied all rumors about the cancellation of the preliminary agreement between Lebanon and the IMF, affirming its stability, continuity, and development in line with Lebanese necessities. Regarding the matter of deposits, Berri reiterated, on his behalf and the behalf of the Parliament, the necessity of fully preserving the rights of depositors, as it is essential for restoring confidence in Lebanon and its banking sector, as well as the trust of both resident and expatriate Lebanese in their homeland. The discussion also addressed the issue of Syrian refugees and the funding crisis of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), along with the burdens and losses that Lebanon incurs in general, and specifically the financial and economic situation due to this. In the afternoon, President Berri received the former Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Elie Ferzli, where they reviewed the general conditions and the latest political and field developments.
