Turkey announced today, Friday, that it has sent a ship to Egypt loaded with supplies for field hospitals, ambulances, and generators to treat the victims of the war in Gaza, which has led to a humanitarian crisis due to the Israeli blockade that has collapsed medical care.
Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca stated, "51 containers of medical supplies and generators, along with 20 ambulances, with the necessary permits, were loaded onto a ship from the port of Sinop in Izmir province and sent to Egypt." He added, "As part of the assistance, a fully equipped field hospital capable of operating in difficult weather conditions and provided with rooms for surgeries and intensive care units has been sent, along with fast-moving field hospitals for transport."
Koca shared footage on the social media platform X, showing ambulances, wheelchairs, and boxes of medical supplies being loaded onto the ship. He mentioned that the ship is expected to arrive at the Egyptian port of Al-Arish tomorrow, Saturday, with field hospitals and ambulances to be deployed in Gaza or the nearest points to the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, in coordination with Egyptian authorities.
Evacuations from Gaza through Rafah began on November 1 for about seven thousand holders of foreign passports and dual nationality along with their families, in addition to a limited number of people needing urgent medical treatment. Some hospitals in Gaza have stopped functioning due to a lack of fuel necessary to operate operating rooms, while other hospitals are struggling to cope with an unprecedented influx of injured patients amid a scarcity of pain relief medications.
