The State Security Service of Azerbaijan reported today, Monday, that a man has been arrested for planning to kill the head of the executive authority of the city of Lankaran, located on the Caspian Sea coast. The statement read: "An investigation conducted by the State Security Service revealed that Azerbaijani citizen Behruz Askierov, who lives in the city of Murmansk in the Russian Federation, conspired with other individuals and planned to carry out a terrorist attack on the territory of Azerbaijan. It was found that Behruz Askierov formed a secret group of individuals living in various regions of the republic and instructed them to organize an assassination attempt on the head of the executive authority in the city of Lankaran." According to Azerbaijani intelligence information, Askierov planned to organize military training for his associates on foreign territory, involving individuals he was in contact with. The statement noted that security personnel arrested Askierov, and he will be brought to trial under several articles of the criminal law of the Republic.
