The British maritime security company "Ambrey" reported today, Saturday, that a commercial ship affiliated with Israel was struck by a drone in the Arabian Sea, off the western coast of India, resulting in a fire. They stated that the fire onboard the vessel, a chemical tanker flying the Liberian flag, was extinguished without any injuries among the crew. The incident occurred approximately 200 kilometers southwest of Veraval, India. The company mentioned on its website that some structural damage was reported and some water entered the ship. The vessel is linked to Israel and last stopped in Saudi Arabia before heading to India at that time.
Iranian media reported, citing a commander in the Revolutionary Guard, that the Mediterranean Sea could be closed if the United States and its allies continue to commit "crimes" in Gaza, although this was not elaborated upon.
This incident follows attacks by Iran-backed Houthis on commercial ships in the Red Sea using drones and missiles, forcing shipping companies to alter their vessels' routes and navigate longer paths around the southern tip of Africa. The Houthis claim the attacks aim to support Palestinians besieged by Israel in the Gaza Strip.
