IOM Requests Funding of Approximately $8 Billion

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), part of the United Nations, requested funding of $7.9 billion for 2024 on Monday. The organization stated in a press release: "Full funding of this appeal would assist nearly 140 million people, including internally displaced persons, as well as the local communities hosting them." The statement quoted the organization's Director General, Amy Pope, saying: "Irregular and forced migration has reached unprecedented levels, and the challenges we face are becoming more complex." Pope added: "It is no longer necessary to prove the conclusion that migration, when managed properly, significantly contributes to prosperity and progress. We are at a critical juncture; we have created this appeal to help fulfill this promise. We can and must do better."
