Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaan stated that the meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shokry in New York was good and very positive, according to the "IRNA" agency. Kanaan described the meeting of the two ministers on the sidelines of the annual United Nations General Assembly in New York as a "new development in relations between the two countries," reflecting the positive trend in regional relations between Iran and its neighbors.
He added: "The two sides discussed several issues of mutual concern during the meeting, and it can be said that they have opened a new horizon in the course of relations by discussing the state of relations and looking forward to the future of ties between the two countries." He continued: "We hope to witness new positive steps in the future of relations between the two countries."
Regarding Abdullahian's agenda in New York, Kanaan said: "We witnessed many meetings today between the head of the Iranian diplomatic corps and his counterparts and some international officials." Kanaan considered Thursday to be "a busy day for the Iranian diplomatic corps," noting that "various topics were discussed during these meetings in the fields of bilateral cooperation, regional and multilateral cooperation, as well as collaboration within international forums including the United Nations General Assembly and related specialized organizations."
