Landslide in Papua New Guinea Causes 300 Deaths

Local media in Papua New Guinea reported on Saturday that more than 300 people and over 1,100 homes were buried due to a massive landslide that devastated a remote village in the northern part of the country. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation mentioned that "4 bodies have been recovered from the area after emergency teams reached the sparsely populated region, and the death toll is expected to rise." The broadcast also indicated that "the landslide blocked access to the highway, making helicopters the only means of reaching the area."
