Who is the late Minister and Former Deputy Mohammad Youssef Baydoun?

The former minister, deputy, and honorary president of the Islamic Charitable Association of the Jabal Amel region, Mohammad Youssef Baydoun, has passed away. He was born in Beirut in 1931. He studied elementary, middle, and high school at the French Laïque Institute in Beirut. He studied law at the Saint Joseph University, obtaining his French law degree in 1954 and his Lebanese degree in 1955. He participated in founding the Social Action Association in 1953, which is affiliated with the Jabal Amel Professional Foundation, and began teaching there starting in 1960. He was elected president of the Islamic Charitable Association of the Jabal Amel region in 1973. He was a member of several educational, economic, and scouting organizations, including the leadership of the Muslim Scouts, the Lebanese Red Cross, the Beirut Traders Association, and served as its advisor for more than twenty-five years. He was elected as a deputy for Beirut Governorate, second district, in 1972, and re-elected in 1992 and 1996. He actively participated in parliamentary committee work, serving as the rapporteur of the Finance and Budget Committee and as a member of the Foreign Affairs, and Administration and Justice Committees. He was appointed Minister of Industry and Oil in October 1980 in the government of Prime Minister Chafik Wazzan. He served as Minister of Water and Electric Resources in December 1990 in the government of Prime Minister Omar Karami. He was Minister of National Education, Sports, Youth, Vocational and Technical Education, Culture, and Higher Education in December 1998 in the government of Prime Minister Salim Al-Hoss. He was known for his principled stances, seriousness in work, and active involvement in following up on parliamentary committee tasks. He shared a deep friendship with Prime Minister Salim Al-Hoss, preferred the title "Abu Youssef" above others, and insisted on it. He held several honors, including the Italian Order of Knight, the National Cedar Order of Knight and Commander, and the French Legion of Honor of Officer rank. He was married to Najla Mohsen Baydoun, and they had four children: Ni'mat, Youssef, Nelly, Nadine, and the late Hussein.
